Women's Basketball Travels To Buies Creek On Tuesday To Take On Campbell

ROCK HILL, S.C.—  Winthrop women's basketball is back in action Tuesday night, searching for its third consecutive win, as they take on the Campbell Camels. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Gore Arena.

SERIES/HISTORY v. CAMPBELL
The Eagles and Camels have met 40 times in history prior to Tuesday's game. Campbell leads the series, 11-29. The Eagles are just 2-8 in the last 10 meetings. During the 2018-19 season, Winthrop and Campbell split the series. The Eagles beat the Camels on their home court, 59-46, the first time these teams met on Jan. 15. Kem Nwabudu led the team with a double-double, recording 18 points and 11 rebounds. When Campbell traveled to Rock Hill, they left with a 76-67 win. Taya Bolden had a huge game for the Camels, recording 22 points and 21 rebounds. Marissa Cantrell led the Eagles with a 16-point performance.

WINTHROP
The Eagles are coming off a big come-from-behind win over Presbyterian on Saturday. Winthrop trailed by 17 points during the third quarter and clawed their way back to win, 61-54. Jah'Che Whitfield led the home team with 17 points, scoring 12 of those points in the second half. She finished 3-of-3 from 3-point range. One of those shots gave Winthrop a 51-50 lead in the fourth, the other extended Winthrop's lead to six with 30 seconds to play. This was Winthrop's fourth double digit comeback win this season: UNCW (11), Western Carolina (13), High Point (14) and PC.  They are now 7-7 overall and 4-1 in Big South Conference play. Winthrop holds a 4-3 road record.  

CAMPBELL
The Camels enter Tuesday's contest 5-1 in the Big South, 10-5 overall after a big 68-31 road win over the Hampton Pirates on Saturday. Campbell was led by Shy Tuelle who notched a game-high 15 points, followed by Luana Serranho who also finished in double figures. Taya Bolden finished with a game-high nine boards. The Camels are led by four-year coach Ronny Fisher and were projected to finish fourth in the conference. They are 7-0 at the Gore Arena this season.

500-REBOUND CLUB HAS A NEW MEMBER
Anika Riley eclipsed 500 career rebounds during Winthrop's game against Gardner-Webb on Monday, Jan. 6. The junior guard is the 18th player in Winthrop women's basketball history to record 500+ career rebounds. Riley is ranked third in the conference, averaging 7.3 boards a game.
