Eagles To Face Campbell With Big South Lead On The Line, Doubleheader To Be Played Friday

ROCK HILL, S.C. - After several weeks sitting at the top of the Big South Conference, the weekend has finally come for Winthrop and Campbell to square off. The Camels and Eagles will meet at the Winthrop Ballpark for a three game set. Due to weather conditions, the original series schedule has been amended. The two squads will play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 2 p.m. with an hour in between games. The senior day ceremony will take place in between the two games of the doubleheader.

Saturday's series finale is currently still scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch. Please note, due to the weather forecast, Saturday's Bark in the Park festivities and giveaways have been canceled. 

Campbell enters the weekend series with a 15-5 record in Big South play and a 28-16 overall mark. The Camels won two of three games against Charleston Southern in Buies Creek this past weekend before topping ACC foe North Carolina State on Tuesday night in Raleigh. Winthrop comes into Friday with a 14-7 Big South record, trailing the Camels by 1.5 games in the league standings. Winthrop is 27-18 overall on the year and comes off winning two of three at Presbyterian this past weekend before dropping Tuesday's contest at North Carolina by a 13-9 score. 

Campbell has won 7 of 13 meetings since the 2012 season. The Camels won two of three games last year in Buies Creek, with the Eagles taking the middle game of the series by a 6-1 score.

* Offensive Leaderboards: Entering this weekend's series, Winthrop leads the Big South Conference in team batting average (.290) and total hits (454). The Eagles have struck out as a team the second fewest times in the Big South (297). Winthrop ranks second in the conference in slugging percentage (.408), on base percentage (.366) stolen bases (76) and total bases (638). The Eagles rank third in the league in runs scored (286), runs batted in (254) and home runs ( 31). 

*Poised Pawelczyk: Nate Pawelczyk threw his second complete game of the season against Presbyterian last Saturday, tying him with Eric Miles of Presbyterian for most in the Big South Conference. Pawelczyk's nine inning effort saw him allow two earned runs on six hits, striking out six and walking one for his Big South leading 8th win of the season (8-3). Pawelczyk sports the fourth-best ERA i the Big South (2.82) despite logging the second most innings of any pitcher (70.1). 

* Sustained Success: After a 6-9 start to the season, Winthrop has been a consistent winning team since - going 21-9 since that point, including winners of five of their last six midweek games, highlighted by an 8-6 road win at Clemson. Winthrop has won its last four Big South series, taking two of three games against High Point, UNC Asheville, Gardner-Webb and Presbyterian.
