ROCK HILL, SC - Winthrop baseball will welcome The Davidson Wildcats to the Winthrop Ballpark Tuesday night as the Eagles look for the series sweep over Davidson. Winthrop won the first matchup with the Wildcats 7-4 on March 13 at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte, taking the lead late on
Scout McFalls' three-run home run in the seventh inning. Winthrop enters Tuesday's matchup 17-14 on the year and 8-4 in Big South play, while the Wildcats bring a 14-12 overall mark to the Winthrop Ballpark and a 4-2 record in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
Winthrop comes into Tuesday's matchup having won two of three against High Point at the Winthrop Ballpark to go to 8-4 in Big South play and a tie with Radford for second place in the league standings. In Friday's and Saturday's victories the Eagles got stellar pitching performances from
Zach Peek and
Nate Pawelczyk, who went 8.1 and 8.0 innings respectively to earn their fourth and sixth wins of the season. The Eagles hit six home runs on the weekend, coming off the bats of
Grant English (2),
Spencer Yankle,
Scout McFalls,
Hunter Lipscomb, and
Jake Sullivan. Winthrop has now hit 27 long balls on the season as a team, second-most in the Big South Conference.
Davidson enters Tuesday losers of five straight games, with two coming this past weekend to North Carolina Central at Wilson Field in Davidson, NC by scores of 10-9 and 9-6. The Wildcats are looking for their first win in the Month of April, with their last victory coming March 29 at Virginia Commonwealth.
