CHARLOTTE, NC –
Mia Creighton was voted the Big South Lacrosse Freshman of the Year and five other Eagles earned awards as the conference office announced the 2019 annual award winners Thursday as voted by the league's head coaches.
Sophomore
Lauren Morris and senior
Emily Torris were named to the All-Conference First Team. Creighton earned Second-Team honors and was joined by senior goalie
Alaina Girani. Freshman
Lauren Asher landed a spot as an All-Conference Honorable Mention and
Olivia Deaver was named to the All-Academic Team.
Creighton, an attacker from LaPlata, MD, earns the third Freshman of the Year award in Winthrop program history. Creighton leads all freshmen and is second on the team with 41 goals this season. She scored a season-high seven goals against Presbyterian and was held scoreless in only one Big South contest.
Morris, an attacker from Pickerington, Ohio, earned her first Big South annual honor with her First-Team selection. She leads the Eagles with 44 goals and 69 points this year. She has tallied a season-high six goals twice and has recorded at least one point in every game this season.
Torris, a defender from Granite Bay, CA, followed up her Preseason All-Conference nod with her first career All-Conference honor. Torris has started all 17 games for the Eagles this season, recording 30 ground balls and forcing 39 turnovers.
Girani, a goalie from Wirtz, VA, earns her fourth All-Conference honor in her four seasons. A Freshman of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and three-time First-Team honoree previously, Girani is the most decorated goalie in Big South history.
Asher, a midfielder from Forest Hill, MD, joins Creighton as one of only four freshmen to earn All-Conference honors this season. Asher has 35 points this year on 25 goals and 10 assists. She also corralled 51 draw controls, 26 ground balls and forced 16 turnovers.
Deaver, a sophomore attacker from Kingwood, TX, was named to the All-Academic Team. Deaver sports a 3.98 GPA as an Exercise Science major. She started all 17 games for the Eagles, scoring six goals and recording 12 assists. She has been named to the Dean's List once and the President's List twice.
