* Winning Ways: Winthrop has won eight of their last nine games and remains perfect with a 6-0 mark in Big South play, courtesy of three game sweeps of Charleston Southern and Longwood. Last weekend against Longwood, the Eagles outscored the Lancers 31-10 for the series and collected 50 hits in the three ballgames, including a season-high 21 in the Sunday series finale.

* Hot Hitters: Six Eagles who have started at least 14 games are hitting above .300 on the season, including 2B Brandon Fite who is 9 for his last 13 (.390 on the season) and C Spencer Yankle, who sports a .360 season average and was 9-17 in the five games prior to Wednesday's contest against Furman.

* Nasty Nate: Senior right hander Nate Pawelczyk turned in yet another dominant outing in his start last Saturday against Longwood. Pawelczyk turned in his sixth straight start allowing two or fewer earned runs, tossing seven innings of two-run ball. He allowed six hits and struck out a season-high 11 batters and walked only one. Pawelczyk earned his Big South leading fifth win of the season to move his record to 5-1, and his season ERA now sits as 1.15, another category for which Pawelczyk sits atop the Big South.

* Awesome Offense: The Eagles have been on an offensive tear and are asserting themselves as the Big South's best offensive team. Entering Friday's contest, Winthrop leads the conference in team batting average (.291), overall hits (243), doubles (43 and total bases (344) and are tied for the league lead in runs scored (163). The Eagles rank second in the Big South in slugging percentage (.412), on base percentage (.375), runs batted in (143) and stolen bases (37).
