ROCK HILL, SC – The eighth-seeded Winthrop women's basketball team opens Big South Tournament play Tuesday night, hosting the ninth-seeded Presbyterian Blue Hose at 7 p.m. at the Winthrop Coliseum.

SEASON SERIES
The Eagles and Blue Hose met twice in the 2018-19 season with Winthrop coming away with two victories, both by single digits.  Winthrop played host to Presbyterian on January 26 and a balanced effort led the Eagles to a three-point victory.  A February 9 trip to Clinton, SC saw Jah'Che Whitfield and Anika Riley lead Winthrop to a 62-54 win as Whitfield came up one rebound short of a double-double.

SCOUTING PRESBYTERIAN
Presbyterian earned the ninth seed in the conference tournament as the Blue Hose picked up key victories over USC Upstate and Longwood in the final weeks of the season.  Kacie Hall leads Presbyterian with 13.4 points per game and is a sharp-shooter from long range, knocking down 42 percent of her attempts from beyond the arc.  Hall scored 24 points in the first meeting between the two teams but was limited to only three in the February loss.

WHAT'S UP NEXT
The winner of Tuesday's first-round matchup will advance to the tournament quarterfinals.  The winner will face top-seeded Radford on Thursday at 6 p.m. on the Highlander's home floor. 
The Big South Women's Tournament is using a dual pod system this year as the top two seeds will host quarterfinal and semifinal contests.  Semifinals will be contested at Radford and High Point on Friday with the championship coming Sunday at the highest remaining seed.
