Baseball Travels to Columbia Tuesday to Battle South Carolina

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Winthrop baseball team will travel to Columbia, S.C. on Tuesday to take on the SEC's South Carolina Gamecocks at Founder's Park. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. Tuesday's game marks the first of six 2019 contests for the Eagles against Power 5 schools. The Eagles are 1-2 on the year following last weekend's series with Toledo, and South Carolina is 2-1 in 2019 after taking two of three from Liberty in their opening series.

Probable pitching matchup: The Eagles plan to send out Sophomore LHP Cody Whitten (0-0, 0.00 ERA). Whitten tossed three innings of scoreless relief against Toledo in Friday's series opener, allowing just one hit. South Carolina's probable starter is Sophomore RHP TJ Shook (1-0, 3.86 ERA)

Series History:  Tuesday marks the 26th all time between the in-state rivals, with South Carolina holding a 18-7 lead in the series. The last meeting between the two schools was February 21, 2018 in Columbia, the Gamecocks winning the ballgame 15-2. 

Hot Bats: Tyler Baker and Brandon Fite each look to continue their hot hitting from the Toledo series this past weekend. Baker went 6-11 at the plate with 2 home runs, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. Fite also went 6 for 11 on the weekend, including going 4-4 in the middle game of the series, scoring three runs.
