Eagles Travel To Lexington To Face No. 14 Kentucky On Wednesday Night

ROCK HILL, S.C.—  Winthrop women's basketball returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Lexington to face the No. 14 Kentucky Wildcats. This matchup is the first of three road games for the Eagles.

SERIES/ SEC HISTORY
Winthrop and Kentucky will meet for the second time in history on Wednesday. The Eagles and Wildcats met once before on Jan. 3, 2000 where Winthrop fell to Kentucky on the road, 94-39. Winthrop holds an 18-22 record against current SEC schools. The Eagles have won 13 of 24 matchups against South Carolina.

WINTHROP
The Eagles fell to College of Charleston on Dec. 1, 84-73. Winthrop had four players in double figures on Sunday; Miquela Santoro (15), Kem Nwabudu (14), Jah'Che Whitfield (13) and a career-high 12 points from freshman Tori Hall. Nwabudu also had 12 rebounds for the fifth double-double of her career, while Maleeah Langstaff recorded a career-high five assists. Winthrop scored a season-high 39 first-half points, giving them a two-point edge over the Cougars at halftime. The third quarter was a back-and-forth battle but 11 Winthrop turnovers and a 13-4 run in the final 10 minutes of play secured the win for College of Charleston.

KENTUCKY
The Wildcats enter Wednesday's contest ranked 14th in the country with their undefeated 9-0 record. Kentucky is coming off a 79-49 win over Samford. The Wildcats were led by sophomore Rhyne Howard who contributed a career-high 30 points. Senior Sabrina Haines scored 12 points of her own, while Jaida Roper and Howard recorded six boards each. Kentucky has won eight of its nine games by 15 or more points. They narrowly defeated Virginia on Nov. 16, 50-47.
 
RILEY CLOSING IN ON 500 REBOUNDS
Anika Riley is averaging 8.2 rebounds per game. She has 456 career rebounds, just 44 shy of the 500 milestone. As a freshman, Riley appeared in all 30 games, averaging 5.6 rebounds. She finished with a total of 174. Riley earned Big South Freshman of the Week honors and was named to the Big South All-Freshman team. In her sophomore season, she tallied 167 defensive rebounds and 73 offensive rebounds for a total of 240, averaging eight a game. Riley appeared in all 30 games. Schaquilla Nunn (2012-15) currently holds the school record with 910 career rebounds.
