Eagles Host College of Charleston Sunday Afternoon

ROCK HILL, S.C.—  The Winthrop women's basketball team will look to turn things around as they host College of Charleston on Sunday, December 1 at 2 p.m. The Eagles will recognize senior Angela Coello Perez prior to tip off.

SERIES/ CAA HISTORY
This will be the 32nd meeting between Winthrop and College of Charleston. Winthrop is 4-27 against the Cougars all-time. The last time these two teams met (11-29-18), Winthrop beat College of Charleston on the road, 71-64. Senior Miquela Santoro had a team-high 14 points, while Anika Riley contributed a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Winthrop is 19-51 all-time against current Colonial Athletic Association schools.
 
WINTHROP
Winthrop women's basketball was unable to snap its losing streak on Tuesday as they fell to Georgia Southern, 91-47. Jah'Che Whitfield had a team-high 11 points, while Anika Riley led the team with seven boards. The Eagles had 20 points off the bench, eight from Sydney Buckley. Six of Buckley's eight points came in the fourth quarter. The Eagles struggled from behind the arc, connecting on just one 3-pointer in the contest and were out rebounded, 49-31.

COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON
College of Charleston came up short of a comeback as they fell 58-54 to the Presbyterian College Blue Hose on Nov. 22. The Cougars had two players in double-figures; Tyler Collins had a team-high 13 points, with Deja Ford contributing 10 points of her own. Latrice Perkins led the team with eight rebounds and five assists. College of Charleston was out rebounded 35-31 and shot 32 percent from the field. The Cougars opened their 2019-20 campaign with back-to-back losses to George Mason and Wake Forest before winning the next three contests to High Point, Coker and NC Central.

RILEY CLOSING IN ON 500 REBOUNDS
Anika Riley is averaging 8.2 rebounds per game. She has 448 career rebounds, just 45 shy of the 500 milestone. As a freshman, Riley appeared in all 30 games, averaging 5.6 rebounds. She finished with a total of 174. Riley earned Big South Freshman of the Week honors and was named to the Big South All-Freshman team. In her sophomore season, she tallied 167 defensive rebounds and 73 offensive rebounds for a total of 240, averaging eight a game. Riley appeared in all 30 games. Schaquilla Nunn (2012-15) currently holds the school record with 910 career rebounds.  

WINTHROP SPORTS SHOW AT ROCO
Joins us on Mondays at The Roasting Company throughout the basketball season for the Winthrop Sports Show at ROCO hosted by the voices of the Winthrop Eagles Dave Friedman and Mike Pacheco.
