JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Winthrop baseball (5-10) fell in both games of Friday's doubleheader with ETSU (8-4). The finale of the weather-altered series is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
In game one, the Bucs broke a scoreless stalemate with a five-spot in the third inning and despite a
Matthew Mulkey two-run homer, the Eagles would be unable to catch up as ETSU would tack on three more runs in the seventh.
In game two, ETSU would again get on the board first with two runs in the third. This time the Eagles would pull ahead with three runs on three hits in the fourth. The Bucs evened the score again at 3-3 with a solo homer in the bottom half of the inning, then went ahead for good with a four hit, three run fifth inning. Â

Grant English had a strong performance at the plate in game two, going 3-for-4 with one run scored.

Nate Pawelczyk recorded a season-high eight strikeouts as he took the mound for game two.
-In game one the Eagles put up just three hits, but rebounded to put up 12 hits in game two.

UP NEXT
Winthrop will take on ETSU for the series finale Saturday at 2 p.m. The Eagles return to Winthrop Ballpark Tuesday and Wednesday next week for two nonconference matchups. Winthrop hosts Furman Tues., Mar. 13 at 6 p.m. and a makeup game with UNC Greensboro on Weds., Mar. 14, also at 6 p.m.
