ROCK HILL, SC – The 10^th-seed Winthrop women's basketball team opens Big South Tournament play Thursday evening at 8 p.m. against the seventh-seeded Gardner-Webb Bulldogs at the Vines Center on the campus of Liberty University.

PREVIOUSLY AGAINST GARDNER-WEBB
Winthrop and Gardner-Webb have met twice this season with the Bulldogs coming out on top.  Both games have been relatively close with the Bulldogs pulling out a seven-point victory on Jan. 27 at the Winthrop Coliseum and winning 68-55 on Feb. 10 on their home floor.
 
BIG SOUTH POSTSEASON AWARDS
The Big South announced its annual award winners Tuesday afternoon as voted on by the league's head coaches.  Anika Riley was voted to the All-Freshman team after averaging 7.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.  Noell Kellers earned a spot on the All-Academic Team as she sports a 3.938 GPA as a Political Science major.
 
SCOUTING GARDNER-WEBB
Gardner-Webb had an up-and-down conference season, finishing 8-10 in the league.  The Bulldogs rattled off three straight victories in mid-February which pushed them up the table but fell in their last two conference games of the season to land in the seventh spot.
 
Tierra Huntsman and Alexus Hill have led the Bulldogs offensively, each averaging more than 14 points per game.  The pair is also the team's leaders in rebounding, pulling down 6.4 and 5.7 boards per game respectively. 
 
ALL-TIME AGAINST GARDNER-WEBB
Thursday will mark the 27^th all-time meeting between the Eagles and Bulldogs.  Gardner-Webb holds an overall 17-9 lead in the series.  The Bulldogs have won the last five meetings over the Eagles including two earlier this season.  The last victory for the Eagles came December 5, 2015 at home.
