Game 2 of the three-game series is Friday at 6 p.m.

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Winthrop baseball (12-15, 6-1 Big South Conference) fell 6-1 in its series opener on the road at High Point (13-12, 5-2 Big South) Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The contest was scoreless through two innings.
-High Point struck first with a two out RBI double in the bottom of the 3rd. The Eagles evened the score at 1-1 with a sac fly in the top of the 4th as Hunter Lipscomb brought home Mitch Spires. The Panthers plated two more in the bottom of the 4th for a 3-1 lead.
-The consistency continued for the Panthers, tacking on two more in the 5th, while the Eagles struggled to get on baserunners. After the score in the 4th inning Winthrop would not get on base until the 9th with a Grant English single and walk issued to Dillon Morton, but was unable to capitalize.
