ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop baseball (9-13, 3-0 Big South) put up a strong defensive effort to down neighboring Davidson (14-6) Wednesday evening at The Winthrop Ballpark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Winthrop and Davidson battled through four scoreless frames.

-A Matthew Mulkey two-RBI double in the bottom of the fifth broke the stalemate and put the Eagles on top 2-0, marking Mulkey's fourth-straight game with a hit.

-With the bases loaded and Mulkey at the plate again in the bottom of the eighth, Davidson would walk in another run for a 3-0 lead for Winthrop.

NOTABLES
-The Eagles pitched by committee, sending six hurlers to the mound, to help hold the Wildcats scoreless despite Davidson posting eight hits.

-Senior Riley Arnone earned his third save of the season, recording three strikeouts in the ninth.
