ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop baseball (1-5) won its sixth-straight home-opening game with an 8-3 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore (0-1) to open the three-game series Friday afternoon. The Eagles would jump on top early with home runs from
Matthew Mulkey and
Hunter Lipscomb and overall eight Winthrop student-athletes would record hits.
"I thought we played well in all three facets tonight," said head coach
Tom Riginos. "It was a good stepping stone from where we've been this past week. I thought we got better tonight and that's what we're looking to do each game."

Zach Peek earned the win, allowing just one run on two hits in 6.2 innings of work.

Hunter Lipscomb hit his first home run of the season, a three-run bomb over the right field fence that put the Eagles up 5-0 in the bottom of the 3

Dillon Morton continued his strong plate performance with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with 1 RBI. Morton is hitting .500 on the season, collecting six hits on just 12 at bats.
