Women's Basketball Hosts NC Central Wednesday For Home Opener

ROCK HILL, SC – Looking to put a mark in the win column, the Winthrop women's basketball team hosts its home opener Wednesday evening against North Carolina Central.

WINTHROP AT A GLANCE
After two tough contests to open the season, Winthrop sits at 0-2.  Freshman Kem Nwabudu has led Winthrop in scoring this season, averaging seven points per game.  Anika Riley came up just short of a double-double at Georgia Sunday and is averaging 5.5 points and 6.5 rebounds through two games.

SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL
The North Carolina Central Eagles sit at 0-1 on the season after falling to Big South foe High Point.  NC Central starts back-to-back games at home Tuesday night, hosting the Elon Phoenix.  In the team's 11-point loss at High Point, NC Central had five players score in double-figures and Paulina Afriyie notched a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.  Kiyana Brown also finished with 10 points and 10 boards.

ALL-TIME AGAINST NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL
Wednesday will be the eighth all-time meeting between the two schools.  Winthrop is a perfect 7-0 against NC Central.  The two programs have not met since 2015.

WHAT'S UP NEXT
Winthrop will remain at home for its next contest.  Newberry will be Winthrop's opponent Saturday at 11:30 a.m. as part of a Homecoming doubleheader with the men who will tip at 2:30 p.m.

WINTHROP SPORTS SHOW AT ROCO
Every Thursday at The Roasting Company throughout the basketball season will be the Winthrop Sports Show at ROCO hosted by the voices of the Winthrop Eagles Dave Friedman and Mike Pacheco. The two will sit down weekly with head coaches Pat Kelsey and Lynette Woodard as well as other selected guests throughout the season. The show is from 6-6:30 p.m. and airs live on 94.3 FM & 104.1 The Bridge.
