Women's Basketball Hosts Gardner-Webb Saturday at 5 p.m. in Second Game of Doubleheader

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop women's basketball team will host the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs Saturday at 5 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader at the Winthrop Coliseum as the men tip off against Campbell at 2 p.m.

EAGLES AT A GLANCE
Winthrop is coming off a tough road loss at Presbyterian Tuesday evening.  After playing a strong opening quarter, the Eagles were hurt by multiple big runs from the Blue Hose, falling 78-45.
 
Courtney Hagaman recorded her third straight game in double-digit scoring and the sixth for the junior out of seven Big South contests.  Hagaman currently leads the Eagles, averaging 9.6 points per game.  Anika Riley grabbed nine rebounds Tuesday and is second on the team, averaging 5.6 boards per contest.
 
SCOUTING GARDNER-WEBB
Gardner-Webb comes into the Coliseum Saturday with a 13-6 overall record and 3-4 conference mark.  The Bulldogs non-conference slate included an eight-game winning streak that ended in the team's first Big South contest.  Gardner-Webb is coming off a home loss to Campbell on Tuesday.
 
Tierra Huntsman and Alexus Hill have led the Bulldogs offensively this season, averaging 16.2 and 14.7 points per game respectively.  They are also the team's leading rebounders, pulling 6.6 and 5.5 rebounds per game respectively.   
 
ALL-TIME AGAINST GARDNER-WEBB
Saturday will mark the 24th all-time meeting between the Eagles and Bulldogs.  Gardner-Webb holds an overall 15-9 lead in the series.  Gardner-Webb won three meetings against Winthrop last season which included the first round of the Big South Tournament.  The last victory for the Eagles came December 5, 2015 at home. 
 
WHAT'S UP NEXT
Winthrop will remain home Tuesday for one of only two back-to-back home conference games for the Eagles.  Winthrop will host Longwood at 7 p.m.
 
WINTHROP SPORTS SHOW AT ROCO
Every Thursday at The Roasting Company throughout the basketball season will be the Winthrop Sports Show at ROCO hosted by the voices of the Winthrop Eagles Dave Friedman and Mike Pacheco. The two will sit down weekly with head coaches Pat Kelsey and Lynette Woodard as well as other selected guests throughout the season. The show is from 6-6:30 p.m. and also airs on 94.3 FM & 104.1 The Bridge.
