Winthrop and Georgia Southern meet for the 18
th time and the first time since 2014. The Eagles lead the all-time series 10-5-2 with the last four meetings decided by a single goal. This is the first trip to Rock Hill since 2011 for Georgia Southern. That year the Eagles earned a thrilling 5-4 victory.

The Eagles look to bounce back after a tough loss in double-overtime at Georgia State on Saturday. Eagle Field is a good spot to turn things around as Winthrop is 2-0 at home this year with a 7-0 scoring margin. Winthrop took the lead 2-1 in the 78

Georgia Southern opened Sun Belt action on Saturday and celebrated with a 2-1 win over Coastal Carolina, which was the preseason favorite to win the league. The victory was powered by two early goals that had Georgia Southern on top 2-0 after three minutes and seven seconds. That lead stood until the 82
nd minute and Georgia Southern held on for the win. Both goals were assisted by Javier Carbonell, which earned him a spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week. Blake Wilson and Carbonell are tied for the team lead with four points as Georgia Southern is averaging a goal per game and allowing a goal per game. Georgia Southern is on a two-game win streak and has won three of its last four games with the only loss coming to #5 Clemson, 2-1.
HASENSTAB TABBED BIG SOUTH ATTACKING PLAYER OF THE WEEK (SEPT. 5)
Following his hat trick in the win over Wofford,
Max Hasenstab was named the Big South Attacking Player of the Week. It was his third career hat trick and the third time in his career to capture the honor.

Max Hasenstab has had a decorated career and enters the 2017 season among some of the NCAA Division I active scoring leaders. Hasenstab entered the season third among active players with 1.67 points per game and has moved to 2nd at 1.72 per game. He remains ahead of Maryland's Gordon Wild for the most goals for an active player with 40. He began the year 3rd in goals per game at .71 and has increased that to .74 (3rd). Through five games he's tied for 5
th nationally in goals per game and tied for 9
th in points per game. He is a three-time All-Big South selection and the 2015 Big South Conference Tournament MVP. He has 94 career points, which ranks 1st among active players and is 7th all-time in Winthrop history.
WHAT'S AHEAD
The Eagles stay at home as they host Presbyterian College on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. in the league opener for both teams.
BIG SOUTH PRESEASON POLL
Winthrop was picked fifth in the Big South Preseason Poll as it was tied with Campbell with 45 votes. The Eagles captured their final two league games of 2016, but did not advance to the conference tournament. Winthrop and Campbell were just seven votes behind Longwood in 4
th. The Highlanders received 7-of-9 first-place votes while High Point was picked second and Liberty third.
