Winthrop Sets School Records for Heptathlon and Decathlon on Friday at Adidas Winthrop Invitational

Cullen Barringer Heads Home in 1,500 Meter Run of Decathlon
ROCK HILL, SC--- The Winthrop women's heptathlon and men's decathlon school records were broken on Friday as the 2017 Adidas Winthrop Invitational Track and Field Meet continued at the Irwin Belk Track.
 
Junior Taryn DeLeon recorded 4,711 points to win the heptathlon and break the seven-year-old school record of 4,557 points set by Amani Antia-Obong in 2010.  On the men's side, junior Cullen Barringer erased his own decathlon record of 6,140 set last year by totaling 6,186 points to win the men's multi-event.
 
Junior jumps and sprint athlete Quemell Brave captured first place in the long jump with a best leap of 7.32 meters and qualified with the four best time in the 100 meter prelims with a time of 11.02 seconds.  Senior Mike Hajduk earned second place in the men's hammer finals with a top throw of 50.35 meters.
 
Alesha Love put herself in contention for two event titles in Saturday's 100 meter hurdles and 400 meter dash.  She had the second best qualifying times in both preliminaries on Friday.  Her 100mH time was 14.49 seconds while she was clocked at 56.16 seconds in the 400m dash.
 
The final day of the 2017 Adidas Winthrop Invitational will get underway at 9 a.m. on Saturday and conclude with the 10,000 meter runs at 3 p.m.
