Eagles to Host Longwood in Final Home Series of the Season

ROCK HILL, SC—The Winthrop Eagles' baseball squad will host their final home series of the season when they welcome the Longwood Lancers in a Big South Conference clash this weekend.

AT A GLANCE
The Eagles enter the game coming off a 7-1 victory over The Citadel this past Wednesday night.  Mark Lowrie helped lead the squad to victory going 3 for 5 with two RBIs.  Reece Green earned the win on the night pitching three innings while fanning five batters along the way.  Winthrop is on a two game win streak and has taken seven of the last ten games.
 
Winthrop is hitting .283 as a squad.  Anthony Paulsen has been a backbone of the offense all year, batting a team high .354 with 70 hits, 31 RBIs, and 51 runs.  Roger Gonzalez enters the series on a nine game hitting streak.  Gonzalez is batting .331 with a team high 41 RBIs.  Mark Lowrie and Mitch Spires are also batting above .300 on the season.
 
The Eagles' pitching staff has a combined 4.78 ERA on the year.  Probable starters for Winthrop are LHP Sam Kmiec (6-4, 3.28 ERA), LHP Thad Harris (6-3, 3.87 ERA), and Sunday's pitcher is TBA.
 
ABOUT OPPONENT
Longwood enters the matchup coming off an 11-5 midweek loss at Duke.  The Lancers are an even .500 in their last ten outings.  They are hitting .259 as a team and the pitching staff has a 4.40 ERA.  Probable starters for Longwood are RHP Travis Burnette (6-1, 2.40 ERA), RHP Luke Simpson (0-3, 4.85 ERA), and LHP Steven Farkas (3-2, 3.86 ERA).
 
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 5th meeting between the two teams.  Winthrop holds a 3-1 advantage over the Lancers after sweeping them on the road last season.
