Lacrosse Preps For Games Against Davidson and St. Francis Sunday

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop lacrosse team will play in the program's first ever doubleheader Sunday as the Eagles will face Davidson at noon on the road followed by a 6 p.m. home contest against St. Francis.

Winthrop (3-0) is coming off an 11-4 victory over Cincinnati Friday where the Eagle defense gave the team the spark it needed after a slow offensive start.  Winthrop forced 14 Bearcat turnovers and sophomore goalie Alaina Girani made 10 saves.  Sophomore Katie Clark led the Eagles with three goals while Abigail Blevins and Kristen Shriver each tallied three points with one goal and two assists each.

Sunday afternoon the Eagles will face the Wildcats, looking to pick up the program's first victory over Davidson.  The Wildcats enter the game with a 1-1 record after falling to Virginia Tech and defeating Kennesaw State.

Emma Sissman has been the team's primary offensive threat, scoring nine goals on 11 shots this year.  Sarah Kopp is the team's second-leading scorer with four goals.  Christine Molinari leads the Wildcats with eight assists.  Rose Woolson has made both starts in goal for Davidson and has allowed 10 goals per game and has a .444 save percentage.

St. Francis comes into Sunday's game with a 1-0 record after beating Radford 23-8 in the team's season opener.  The Red Flash had been 0-14 in season openers prior to last Saturday's game.  The Eagles are 3-0 all-time against the Red Flash.

Lindsay Ingram and Sarah Mahon led St. Francis offensively in its first game, totaling six and five goals respectively.  Katie Schaaf led the team with four assists.  Ashley Stoessel made the start for St. Francis against Radford, allowing six goals and making four saves in 30 minutes.  Heather McKee played the other 30 minutes against the Highlander allowing two goals and making four saves.

Following Sunday's double dip, the Eagles will have the week off before making a weekend Virginia trip for a Friday contest against VCU and a Sunday contest against William & Mary.
