THE MATCHUP
Winthrop is looking to end a three-game skid as it steps away from Big South action for its final non-conference regular season game of the season. The Eagles are averaging 83.5 points per game, which ranks 26th nationally and are hitting 8.3 three-point baskets per game. This season the Eagles are 2-0 against non-Division I opponents and are looking for the program's 40th straight win in matchups with non-D1 opponents. Ferrum College is coming off its first loss in five games as it had a winning streak halted at four in a 70-64 loss at N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday. As a team the Panthers average 69.8 ppg while shooting 44 percent from the field, 34 percent behind the arc and 61 percent at the foul line.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Junior Keon Johnson now has eight games of scoring 20 or more points after he put up 23 in the road loss to UNC Asheville. Following his first game without a three-pointer (loss at Coastal on Jan. 2) he was 4-for-9 from three and 6-for-12 from the field. Over the last five games he's averaging 20.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg while shooting 49 percent from the field. Senior Jimmy Gavin is averaging 17.0 ppg over the last five games while shooting 50 percent from the field. Gavin is averaging 12.2 points per game in league games only but has scored 17 and 19 in his previous two conference contests. JOHNSON CLIMBING UP THE ALL-TIME CAREER POINTS LIST
Junior Keon Johnson joined an elite club as he became the 23rd player in the program's history to reach 1,000 points in his career. The 5-7 guard from Mansfield, OH drilled a three for his 18th point of the game which gave him 1,000 in his career. He finished the game with a team-high 25 points. In his career to this point he's averaging 13.6 ppg and if he were to maintain that average for the remainder of his career (estimation of at least 45 possible games to play) he would finish with over 1,600 points, which only two players in school history have achieved. Johnson now has 1,072 career points, moving into 18th all-time as he just passed Andre Smith (1,071) and is now seven points away from 17th and is 86 points from 16th. He is the third player to reach 1,000 career points in Pat Kelsey's four years (Keon Moore/A. Smith). Johnson also joined an elite club of 30-point scores as he recorded his third of the season and his career with 32 in the loss to Campbell. He became just the fourth player in the history of the program to reach 30-points or more for a third time. Charles Brunson has the most 30-point games with nine and Fred McKinnon had five while Johnson is now tied with Torrell Martin for the third most with three.

LAST TIME OUT
The Eagles couldn't overcome 22 turnovers as they fell 85-84 as UNC Asheville rallied from 23 points down in the second half. Winthrop shot 55 percent from the field, but 22 miscues led to 29 points for the Bulldogs. The loss gave Winthrop three consecutive losses in league play for the first time since the 2012-13 season when the team started 0-3. Under head coach Pat Kelsey, the Eagles are 18-4 all-time when playing a home game following a road loss.
