www.winthropphotos.comROCK HILL, SC- The Winthrop baseball team earned the No. 3 seed in the 2015 Big South Conference Tournament sponsored by Hardee's and Enterprise Rent- A-Car and will face No. 6 Campbell on Tuesday. The game will begin 45 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1 between No. 2 Coastal Carolina and No. 7 Charleston Southern that begins at 9:30 a.m.
The last time the two teams met was in the 2014 Big South Conference Tournament Final, when the Camels defeated the Eagles 9-1. Campbell leads the all-time series 19-23.
The Eagles (38-17, 16-8 Big South) secured the No. 3 seed for the third time with their fourth straight sweep of a conference series, going undefeated in its final twelve conference matches against Longwood, Charleston Southern, Presbyterian and Asheville. The Eagles ended the regular season a 13-game conference winning streak which is the longest in program history. The Winthrop offense finished the year hitting .301 which is first in the conference and 25
th in the nation and the highest regular season batting average since 2010.
The Eagles have qualified for the tournament 25 times, with four championships, five runner-up titles and a record of 48-42.
The Camels (31-23, 12-12 Big South) earned the No. 6 seed after winning their final conference series against No. 25 Coastal Carolina. Campbell leads the conference in team pitching, combining for an ERA of 3.39 and holding opponents to a .265 batting average. After clinching the Big South Tournament Title in 2014, the Camels went 2-1 in the NCAA Regional with two losses to No. 1 South Carolina.
The winner will play the winner of the first game between Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. while the losing team will play the loser of the first game on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
Radford clinched the No. 1 seed and the Big South regular season championship while Coastal Carolina is just above Winthrop in the No. 2 spot. No. 4 Liberty and No. 5 High Point face each other for the fourth time in a week after concluding the regular season with a series against each other. No. 7 Charleston Southern and No. 8 Longwood round out the seeding.
