Walk-On Tevin Prescott Rewarded With Basketball Scholarship

ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop head men's basketball coach Pat Kelsey has announced that walk-on Tevin Prescott has earned a scholarship for the 2015-16 season.

Prescott, a forward from Hartsville, SC, started 28-of-29 games last season as junior where he averaged career-highs in points (7.1) and rebounds (5.0) as well as setting career-bests with 21 steals and 16 blocks. He played a key role in helping the Eagles win 27 Big South Conference regular season and tournament games over the past two seasons as well as back-to-back championship game appearances.  This is the highest conference win total in a two-year period since 2007-2008.

"Tevin is a true testament to what hard work and perseverance can do," said Kelsey. "He went from a skinny freshman that almost never played to one of the best players at his position in our league in my opinion. His numbers do not speak to that but that is the beauty of his game. His value is not represented on a stat sheet. He is the ultimate team guy that selflessly gives of himself for the good of the team, always. He does so many little things that make a team better. He has sacrificed greatly and has earned this. I am proud of him and proud to say I coach him."
