ROCK HILL, SC- The Winthrop baseball team concludes its non-conference schedule and will have its final home game on Tuesday, hosting Charlotte at 4:30 p.m. at The Winthrop Ballpark. The two teams met earlier in the year, with the Eagles walking away with a 5-1 victory.
Winthrop (35-16) has won 13 out of its last 15 games and 22-8 when playing non-conference opponents. The Eagles are also 24-9 when playing in Rock Hill this year. The offense has five players on a hitting streak of three games or more, led by sophomore
Babe Thomas. Thomas was named the Big South Player of the Week this week, after hitting .500 with two home runs. The Eagles have six players hitting above .400 in the month of May and five hitters averaging over .300 on the year. Senior
Brad Kaczka continues to lead the team with a .360 average and 67 hits.
Charlotte (17-27) is trying to snap a six-game losing streak after losing two straight conference series. Senior Brad Elwood has started all 44 games for the 49ers and is hitting .325.The offense is hitting .247 overall with five players averaging over .300. Defensively, the Charlotte pitching staff has an overall earned runs average of 5.16.
