ROCK HILL, SC- The Winthrop baseball team continues its six- game road slate with a three- game series against Big South top dog Radford. Game times are scheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Radford University Baseball Stadium. This is the 94
th meeting and the Eagles lead the series 54-39.
Winthrop (22-12, 3-6 Big South) is looking to extend a three-game winning streak and win its first conference series of the year. The Eagles are currently ranked 7
th in the Big South standings. Winthrop's offense is second in the conference in team batting combining for an overall average of .292, led by junior
Roger Gonzalez. Gonzalez leads the conference with an individual batting average of .383 with 44 hits and 25 RBI. Sophomore southpaw
Matt Crohan leads the Winthrop weekend pitching rotation with a 2.08 ERA that ranks third in the Big South. Crohan is 4-2 overall on the year, earning all three of the Eagles' conference wins.
Radford (21-11, 8-1 Big South) is on a ten-game winning streak with its last loss coming against Liberty on March 22, which is the Highlanders' only conference loss. Senior Josh Gardiner (.371) leads the Radford batters that have an overall average of .279 which is fourth in the Big South. The Highlanders are very experienced with seniors accounting for 150 of 300 hits and 103 of 176 RBI. Â The Radford pitching staff has an overall ERA of 3.88, with the weekend rotation allowing 65 runs on 131 hits.
