ROCK HILL, SC- The Winthrop baseball team continues its eight game home stand this week, hosting North Carolina A&T on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. and The Citadel on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
The Eagles (10-4) extended their home winning streak to six with their three game sweep of UMES over the weekend and have won six out of their last seven games. Winthrop's pitching staff has combined for an ERA of 2.88, allowing just 54 hits while registering 120 strikeouts. On offense, the Eagles have 119 hits including 21 doubles and six home runs.
Anthony Paulsen is hitting .400 on the year, with 20 hits and nine RBIs including the game winning double in the Eagles' 1-0 victory over UMES.
North Carolina A&T (2-8) snapped a six game losing streak with an 11-8 victory over Farleigh Dickinson on Sunday. Senior Brandon Mitchell hit a grand slam in the eighth inning to win the game. Mitchell leads the team with 12 RBIs, and is hitting .344 on the year. Adan Ordonez and Milton Rivera are both hitting a team high .412 with 14 hits each. The Aggies pitching staff has an ERA of 7.24, giving up 77 runs on 101 hits. Head coach Ben Hall is in his first season with North Carolina A&T, having previously served as an assistant coach at Winthrop for three seasons.
Winthrop is taking on a Citadel team that is 7-7 on the year and has won two out of its last five games. The Bulldogs have four players hitting above .300 this year, led by junior Connor Walsh. Walsh has a team high 20 hits and has driven home 16 runs. Senior Johnathan Stokes leads the team in runs with 14 and doubles with seven. The Citadel's pitchers have combined for an ERA of 4.75, surrendering 66 runs on 96 hits. Fred Jordan in his 24
