ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop soccer is set to host the 9th annual Manchester Cup will be held Mar. 28 at the Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex.
The Manchester Cup has grown into one of the best college soccer showcases in the nation as teams from all over the region come to Rock Hill, SC to face quality competition. The Manchester Cup was originated in 2007 and will once again feature some of the best collegiate teams from the South Region.
This year's field features five high school teams ranked in the Top 15 in South Carolina and four College teams ranked in the Top 50 in the Nation. Tickets are $5, which gets you admission to the entire event (14 games) and children 6 & under will be admitted free.
The showcase will begin on Saturday with South Pointe vs. Andrew Jackson in girls high school soccer action at 9:30 a.m. and run all day with the last game starting at 7:50 p.m. There is only one girl's high school game as the boy's high school soccer games will include Clover vs. Indian Land, Fort Mill vs. Blythewood, and South Pointe vs. York.
The field for the men's collegiate games includes Gardner-Webb, College of Charleston, Davidson, South Carolina, Appalachian State, Furman, Georgia State and the host Winthrop. The only women's soccer game will be between Winthrop and Belmont Abbey. The final game of the day will see FC Carolinas Discoveries take on Gate City FC, both of the NPSL.
