Jason Driver held the Highlanders to just two hits in the last five innings to help lift the Winthrop baseball team past Radford 7-4 Saturday afternoon at The Winthrop Ballpark. The Eagles are now 16-17 on the year, and 8-3 in the conference as the Highlanders fall to 15-14 and 6-5 in Big South play.
Driver came in the fourth inning to relieve
Joey Strain to get his fourth win of the year as Radford's Tyler Costello took the loss, giving up five runs on six hits.
Despite Radford going up 1-0 after two and half innings, the Eagles rebounded with a three run third inning.
Kyle Edwards walked and was followed by a single by
Leighton Daniels. Edwards scored on an RBI single by
Michael Patrick with Daniels coming home on an RBI single by T.J. Olesczuk. Patrick advanced to third on a throwing error on the single by Olesczuk and scored as
John Menken reached on fielder's choice.
The Highlanders had their own three run inning in the top of the fourth inning, making the score 4-3.
Jason Driver then came in to hold the Highlanders offense, as the Eagles' lineup scored two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to take the game 7-4.
The final game of this weekend's conference series will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at The Winthrop Ballpark.
