Baseball Gets Shutout by High Point 6-0

High Point, NC- The Winthrop baseball team lost the first game of its conference series with High Point Thursday night 6-0. The Eagles fall to 18-23 and are now 9-7 in conference play while the Panthers jump to 21-16 and are also 9-7 in conference action.

Sam Kmiec pitched the first four innings and took the loss, giving up all six runs on 11 hits. High Point's John McGillicuddy pitched a complete game and held the Eagles to just three hits.

T.J. Olesczuk had two of the Eagles three hits, including a double in the ninth inning, with pinch hitter Luke Maldonado getting the third.

The Panthers took the lead in the first inning and added one run in the third and fourth innings. The panthers tacked on three more in the fifth inning with Josh Green leading the team going 2-3, scoring two runs and hitting one RBI.

The second game of the series will be played tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at Willard Stadium in High Point.
