ROCK HILL, SC- The Winthrop baseball team will try to bounce back from a disappointing weekend series as they head to Spartanburg on Wednesday to take on Southern Conference foe Wofford at 5:00 pm.
The two teams have met 24 times with the last meeting resulting in a 7-3 loss on the road for the Eagles. Winthrop leads the all-time series, however, 17-7.
The pitching matchup will be Winthrop's right-hander
Zach Sightler vs. Wofford right-hander Quintin Pile.. Sightler is 1-0 on the year and has given up 4 hits and two runs.
Winthrop is now 6-5 on the year after a difficult weekend on the road where they were held to just four runs in three games. Junior
TJ Olesczuk leads the Eagles in hits (16), runs batted in (9) and batting average (.444).
Babe Thomas is having a huge impact in his collegiate season with 15 hits, six RBIs and is hitting .385 on the year.
Wofford (7-4) is off to an impressive start this season and are on a two game winning streak most recently beating Longwood 4-3. Seniors Eric Brenk and Seth Neely, along with sophomore Demetrius Jennings are all batting above .300 for the Terriers and have a combined 19 RBIs on 42 hits.
Todd Interdonato is currently in his seventh season as head coach for Wofford and has an overall record of 122-206 with the Terriers.
