Women's Soccer Breaks Four School Records in 11-1 Victory Over Alabama A&M

ROCK HILL, SC- Junior Krystyna Freda scored three goals to lead the Winthrop women's soccer team to a 11-1 victory over Alabama A&M Sunday afternoon.

Four school records were broken in the game including most goals scored in a single game (11), most team points in a game (31) and most shots taken in a game (40). Freda also broke the record for most individual shots taken in a game (12) that she previous set in 2011.The Lady Eagles improve to 3-1 while the Lady Bulldogs fall to 0-6.

 Freda's first goal came in the 23rd minute when she finished a pass from freshman Baley Jackson. Freda continued to take shots throughout the first half but wouldn't capitalized until six minutes into the second half off an assist from Grace Radler. Eight minutes later, the stand out forward finished her first hat trick since scoring three goals against Charleston Southern in 2011.

Sophomore Taylor Walton scored two goals in as many shots, while fellow Sophomore Taylor Coleman also put away two for the Lady Eagles. Walton's first goal came in the 26th minute, just 30 seconds after she entered the game. Sophomore Eden Ralph capitalized on a penalty after AAMU senior Samatra Spires committed a foul inside the box. Senior Rebecca Hamm and sophomore Abby Frick each earned their first collegiate goals, while junior Grace Radler tallied the eighth goal of her career.

Despite dominating play, the Lady Eagles failed to get the shutout after AAMU Freshman Estelle Esperance put a shot past goalkeeper Amelia Henderson. Henderson made one save on the night while freshmen goalkeeper Carolina Duncan played in her first game for Winthrop. AAMU goalkeeper Marissa Oehler played all 90 minutes for the Lady Bulldogs and made 15 saves.

The Lady Eagles return home for their next match against Davidson Friday, September 13, at 7:00 P.M. at Eagle Field.
