strong>ROCK HILL, SC--Fall practice for the Winthrop baseball team is set to begin on September 14 and will be highlighted by a October 18 exhibition game against a Canadian college team and the annual Eagle World Series, October. 19-21, that wraps up practice.
For the first time ever, the Eagles will play a fall exhibition game as they will meet College Lafleche out of Trois-Riveres, Quebec, Canada at 6 p.m. on Oct. 18. Admission to the exhibition game as well as all practices is free and open to the public.
"I am very excited about the start of fall practice next week. Our players have worked extremely hard in our non-championship segment for the last three weeks," said Riginos. "One of the main objectives of fall practice is to teach the players how we want them to play and the speed with which we want to practice and play the game. We will also work very hard on our fundamentals and the installation of our playbook," he said.
Fall practice times are as follows: 2:30 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; 3:15 on Thursday; 11:00 a.m. on Saturday; and 12 noon on Sunday. The team will be off on Tuesday. Most intrasquad games will take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The times for the Eagle World Series will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19; 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, and 3:00 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21.

"The opportunity to play College Lafleche out of Quebec will a great way to end our fall," said Riginos. "The exhibition will be a great opportunity for our players to compete against someone other than ourselves, and will give the coaching staff another opportunity to evaluate our team in a spring-type atmosphere." Â
Riginos says the game will also give Eagle fans a glimpse of what the 2014 team will be like and will create some excitement for the next spring.Â
