ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The Winthrop University baseball team fell to the USC Upstate with a final score of 18-6 on Thursday night at HomeTrust Park. Despite the Eagles managing nine hits, including four doubles and a home run, they were unable to overcome Upstate's 18-hit performance.
With the loss, the Eagles fall to the loser's bracket portion of the tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans took an early lead with two runs in the first inning, including a homer by Zenor and a run scored on a throwing error.
In the second inning, Winthrop tied the game as Skowronski doubled and scored on Wilson's RBI double. Crowley added a run with a sacrifice fly.
Upstate regained the lead in the third inning with a two-run homer by Sweeney.
The fourth inning saw Upstate score five runs, highlighted by Armsey's three-RBI double. Natividad responded with a bases-clearing double for Winthrop.
The Spartans extended their lead in the fifth with six runs, including a grand slam by Waters.
Crowley homered in the sixth for Winthrop, but Upstate added two more runs.
