ROCK HILL, SC- The Winthrop women's soccer team returns home this Friday as they take on Davidson College at 7:00 p.m. at Eagle Field.
Winthrop (3-1) is coming off a record breaking 11-1 win against Alabama A&M. The Lady Eagles broke four school records in Sunday's contest including most goals scored in a single game (11), most team points in a single game (31) and most shots taken in a single game (40). Krystyna Freda also broke the record for most individual shots take in a game (12). Freda, who registered a hat trick against AAMU, leads the team in goals (6) and shots (31). Junior Grace Radler is tied for second in assists (2) and is second in shots taken (15). Sophomores Eden Ralph, Taylor Walton and Taylor Coleman all have nabbed two goals this season. In goal, Amelia Henderson has earned a 1.09 goals against average and a save percentage of .82.
Davidson (0-3-3) will be not only be looking to earn its first win this year but also hopes to score its first goal. The Wildcats have been held without goals in their first six matches, including goalless draws against Florida Gulf Coast, Florida Atlantic and Coastal Carolina. Junior forward Becca Fisher leads the team with 17 shots, six coming from the game against Coastal. Goalkeeper Rachel Locke has helped to keep Davidson in games, racking up 35 saves in 600 minutes between the posts.
The Wildcats are under the guidance of head coach Greg Ashton who is currently in his 10th season. Ashton has an overall coaching record of 166-77-23, with a record of 95-69-21 at Davidson.
This will be the fourth time the two teams have met and Davidson leads the series 3-0-1. The last meeting was in 2010 when the Wildcats won 2-0.
