ROCK HILL, SC -- Winthrop's Wednesday night baseball game at North Carolina A&T was cancelled after two innings of play due to wet field conditions.
The Eagles found themselves down early to the Aggies 8-0 after two innings, however, that is when the rain came. The umpires called a delay after the completion of the second inning due to lightning in the area. The lightning and rain prevented the team from being able to get the tarp on the field. During the delay, heavy rain drenched the field making the surface unplayable. At that point the game was officially cancelled.
The Eagles (17-31, 5-13 BSC) are back in action this weekend when they travel to Lexington, VA for a three-game Big South series against VMI (19-30, 5-13 BSC). The teams are slated for a 6:00 p.m. game on Friday and Saturday with the series finale on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The weekend series can be followed on the Winthrop Sports Network via
