ROCK HILL, SC--Winthrop junior distance runner
Jeanne Stroud broke the school's 10,000 meter record and moved up to the 18th fastest time nationally with a clocking of 35:10 at the Raleigh Relays on Friday night.
Stroud (Charleston, SC) has now set new Winthrop records in three consecutive meets. Her latest record time broke her previous best time by almost two minutes and puts her in a strong position to qualify for the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Nationals. The top 48 runners in the nation qualify for nationals.
"The conditions were just perfect," said Stroud who looks to add more honors to her resume in three weeks at the Big South Conference Outdoor Championships that will be held in Lynchburg, VA April 18-20. "There was hardly any wind and I felt strong throughout the race."
"Jeanne is having a breakthrough season and continues to push herself to become among the best distance runners in the United States," said Winthrop head coach
Ben Paxton. "I think we have just hit the tip of the iceberg with her and there is still more improvement to be made."
