ROCK HILL, SC—
The men's basketball team plays its second straight road game as it visits Gardner-Webb, Tuesday evening in Big South Conference action.

The Eagles are coming off a loss at Presbyterian College in which it shot 54 percent from the field as a team as they fell 64-57.

Winthrop is now 11-14 on the season and 5-8 in the Big South with just three league games remaining in the regular season. If the Eagles win the remainder of their league games they could tie last year's conference win total of eight. However, team's played 18-league games a year ago and are playing just 16 league games this season.

One more victory will match the win total from 2011-12 as the team finished 12-20 and had 11 regular season victories.

Tonight the Eagles are looking for their first road victory in the Big South as they are the only conference team not to have won on the road at 0-6. It is one-of-two remaining road contests.

In the loss on Saturday, PC connected on nine three-pointers. It was the fourth time on the season that a Winthrop opponent hit at least nine threes in a game. It was just the second time all season in which the Eagles shot 50 percent or better from the floor in a game, which they did in the season-opening win against St. Andrews (50%).

Junior Joab Jerome capped off an impressive week at PC with a career-high 20 points after recording just his second career double-double in the win over Charleston Southern on Wednesday. Jerome averaged 15.5 points while shooting 71 percent from the floor on the week. He was also perfect 10-for-10 at the charity stripe. His scoring average on the season has now increased to 9.3 per game and he's shooting 49 percent from the floor (67 percent the last five games).

Sophomore Derrick Henry continues to lead the team in scoring at 11.4 points and is coming off a 12-point performance at PC in which he was 5-for-11 from the field.

History favors the Eagles against Gardner-Webb as they lead the all-time series 12-5 and are 6-2 all-time at Gardner-Webb. Winthrop is 7-2 in league games against the Runnin' Bulldogs and 3-1 at Paul Porter Arena.

Winthrop won the first meeting this season at the Winthrop Coliseum, 61-55, behind 14 points from Andre Smith and 11 points from James Bourne.

The Eagles last visit to Paul Porter Arena came on Dec. 3, 2011 and they suffered a 62-60 loss. In the last five visits to Paul Porter, Winthrop has scored in the 60's all five meetings and is 4-1 in those games.

Gardner-Webb enters the game with a 16-11 record overall and 8-5 mark in the Big South as it is looking for an opportunity to capture a first place finish in the South Division. The Runnin' Bulldogs trail Charleston Southern by two games and UNC Asheville by one game with three to play. Since falling to the Eagles on Jan. 23, Gardner-Webb has won six-of-seven games and are one of the hottest teams in the league. The only loss came at PC on Feb. 6, 57-54.

Tashan Newsome leads the team in scoring at 14.6 points per game and shooting 44 percent from the field. He's led the team in scoring and the team is 7-3 when he does so. It has been Donta Harper that has led the team the last two games as he is second on the team with a 13.1 scoring average. Harper isn't an outside shooter as he's attempted just 14 threes on the year but has 141 free throw attempts (28 percent of his points).

During the stretch of six wins in seven games, the Runnin' Bulldogs are allowing just 62.8 points per game. This game will be just the third home game since Jan. 19 as six of the last eight have been on the road.
