ROCK HILL, SC—
The Winthrop women's basketball team ended the regular season Monday evening in impressive fashion as it cruised to an 84-47 victory over Coastal Carolina, sending its seniors off on a high note.

With the win, the Eagles are now 18-12 overall and finish league play with a 12-6 mark. Coastal Carolina falls to 13-14 overall and 6-12 in the Big South. It was the ninth time this season Winthrop has scored 80 points in a game.

Dequesha McClanahan scored 16 first half points to help the Eagles build a 24-point half time advantage and Samiya Wright caught fire in the second half en route to a career-high 30 points to help Winthrop capture its second straight victory. It was the second straight game Wright set a new career-high in points. McClanahan finished with 23 points and nine assists as it was the sixth game this season Winthrop had two players score 20 or more.

Over the first eight minutes of the second half, Wright helped Winthrop take its lead into a 30-point advantage as she scored 14 points to put Winthrop up 66-32 at the 11:53 mark.

Winthrop used an 18-2 run approaching the midway point of the first half to open up a 15-point lead, 23-8 at the 10:40 mark. Winthrop trailed 6-5 at the 16:07 mark when the run started with a Diana Choibekova triple. Choibekova followed that up with a jumper for a 17-8 lead and the run was capped off by a three from Wright.

Coastal Carolina's Savanah Pippin stopped the run with a jumper to cut the lead down to 13, but Winthrop responded with a 7-0 spurt to increase the lead to 20 points at the 8:42 mark after a McClanahan jumper. That jumper put McClanahan over 1,000 points for her career as she becomes the first player in school history and second in Big South history to reach the mark prior to her junior season.

Winthrop shot its way to a 44-20 halftime advantage going 6-for-13 behind the arc and finishing the first half at 41 percent from the field. Defensively Winthrop held Coastal Carolina to 28 percent shooting.

Coastal Carolina was led by Katelyn Connor's nine points as she also added three blocks and two steals in 21 minutes off the bench. Kayla Cook added eight points and eight rebounds.

Choibekova finished with her second straight double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She hit four threes on the night and is now seven behind the NCAA single-season mark at 119. Her 119 are tied for seventh-best in a season in NCAA history.

Senior's Kaitlyn Rubino and TaQuoia Hammick were recognized prior to the game and both turned in solid nights. Rubino finished with eight rebounds, a block and a steal. Hammick had seven points and eight rebounds as she passed 500 career points.
