ROCK HILL, SC--
The Winthrop men's basketball team hopes to end its two-game losing streak and head into Thanksgiving break on a positive note when it hosts 4-0 Lenoir-Rhyne, Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.

Winthrop (1-2) is coming off a 90-54 loss to #26 Virginia Commonwealth as the Rams connected on 13 three-pointers (13-for-25) and took advantage of 21 Eagle turnovers for 35 points.

One bright spot from the loss on Saturday is that sophomore Derrick Henry has become a legitimate scorer as he had his second 20-point game in the first three games of the year. He finished with 23 points (7-for-10 from the foul line) and was 4-for-8 from behind the arc. In three games, Henry has been to the foul line 29 times. Henry leads the team with a 21.3 scoring average on 44 percent shooting.

This will be just the third meeting all-time with the Bears as Winthrop has won both meetings, which were on the road. The only two meetings came prior to the Eagles move to the NCAA Division I level as Winthrop won the first meeting in the 1980-81 season, 73-63, and the second meeting in the 1982-83 season, 94-76.

Despite a 3-for-14 performance from the field against VCU, sophomore Andre Smith remains second on the team in scoring at 9.7 points.

Sophomore forward Larry Brown continues to lead the team in rebounding with an average of 6.7 and is also scoring 5.0 points per game on 41 percent shooting. James Bourne continues to finish at a high percentage as he's 7-for-8 from the field this season (88 percent). Bourne is also pulling down 4.7 boards.

The Bears are off to a good start to the season, having captured the Conference Carolinas/SAC Tip-Off Classic and the Pickle Classic at Mt. Olive this past weekend.

The offense is led by sophomore guard Denzel Dillingham, who is averaging 17.5 points on 44 percent shooting. Dillingham is also 8-for-22 from behind the arc and 16-for-20 at the foul line.

Through their first four games, the Bears have 94 free throw attempts and 23 more than their opponents.

Junior center Matt Kunz is the only other player averaging double-figures at 10.8 points and is nearly averaging a double-double at 9.0 rebounds per game. Kunz is knocking down 47 percent from the field and also has 11 offensive boards. Kunz had a monster game of 18 points and 14 rebounds in the win over Queens.

So far Lenoir-Rhyne has outscored its opponents by 27 points in the second half and two of their wins have been by four points or less. This game counts as an exhibition for the Bears.
