ROCK HILL, SC—
Winthrop women's basketball four-game winning streak was snapped at Liberty Monday evening as the team looks to rebound when it hosts league-leading High Point, Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Winthrop Coliseum.

The game is part of a double-header with the men's basketball team, who will also face High Point. That tip is set for 4 p.m.

The Lady Eagles endured a rare subpar performance during the last month as it fell 74-49 at Liberty Monday evening. The team shot just 25 percent from the floor and committed 19 turnovers that led to 22 points for Liberty.

The road to righting the ship quickly doesn't get any easier for the Lady Eagles as they face a High Point team that is a perfect 7-0 in the Big South and currently riding a seven-game win streak. Winthrop is currently tied for third in the league standings with Campbell, which it will face Monday evening.

Having won eight of its last 12 games, Winthrop will welcome a home game after playing five of the last seven on the road. Winthrop is averaging 71 points per game at home (70.7 on the season) while shooting 41 percent. In the Lady Eagles only two home games in conference play, they posted over 80 points and averaged 85 points while shooting an impressive 44 percent from the field and 47 percent behind the arc.

Diana Choibekova, who is second on the team this season with a 16.7 scoring average, has been impressive the last two home games at 28 points per game. She's shot 53 percent from the field and 52 percent behind the arc while also averaging 7.5 rebounds. In her last home game she broke her own single-game record of made threes with 10. Overall this season, Choibekova is averaging 18.1 points per game at home.

The watch is on as Choibekova is currently chasing the Big South Conference record for three-pointers in a season. Choibekova passed the Winthrop single-season mark on Saturday at Radford and currently has 81. The Big South record is 107, set by Katie Tull in 2010-11. Tull also has the second best mark with 100 during the 2009-10 season.

Samiya Wright has aveaged 18 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals in conference games at home. Wright finished with seven points at Liberty on Monday and failed to reach double-figure scoring in back-to-back games for the first time in her career. She's scored in double-figures in 14-of-19 career games.

Despite the loss at Liberty, Winthrop is 4-1 in the last five games averaging 71 points per game even though it posted just 49 on Monday. Choibekova has been the leading scorer in that stretch at 20.2 points per game. Dequesha McClanahan has averaged a double-double in the last five games with 18.6 points and 10.0 assists.

Post production has been very solid for the Lady Eagles the last five games as Kaitlyn Rubino, TaQuoia Hammick and Taylor Calvert have combined to average 16.4 points per game while shooting an efficient 67 percent from the floor. Calvert has averaged 5.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game since being inserted into the starting line-up five games ago.

High Point has been rolling, having won seven in a row and the last four games by double-figures. In the last four games, the Panthers have won by an average of 17.3 points per game and have won all but one game in the win streak by double-figures. The only game came at Liberty, in a hard fought overtime victory.

Just like the Lady Eagles, High Point has three players averaging in double-figures. Senior Shamia Brown leads the way at 15.5 points per game. Brown is also averaging 6.9 rebounds and is second on the team in steals (37). Brown is the league's seventh best scorer and ranks seventh in rebounding as well. Brown averaged 17 points a game against the Lady Eagles last season on 54 percent shooting. In seven career games against Winthrop, Brown is averaging 13.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 steals while shooting 43 percent.

Junior Erin Reynolds is just behind Brown in scoring at 15.1 per game and is also averaging 4.4 assists. Sophomore Cheyenne Parker has made her presence felt in the post as she's averaging a double-double of 13.7 points and 12.3 rebounds. Parker was just named Big South Player of the Week after averaging 18 points and 19.5 rebounds in two games. Parker is averaging 13 points and 14.4 rebounds a game in seven league games.

The Panthers have scored 80 points or more in seven games this season and three of their last four. Only two games out of the 18 High Point has played this season, has the leading scorer not been Brown, Reynolds or Parker. Lindsay Puckett led the team the other two times. High Point is 12-4 when one, two or all three are the leading scorers.

The all-time series favors the Panthers, 18-16, and they've won the last three meetings by an average of 10 points. Winthrop does hold a 10-6 mark all-time against High Point at home.

This game has the potential for both teams to reach 80 or more. Only one time in the history of the series have the two teams both reached 80 or more points in the same game. That came in 2002 at the Millis Center, where Winthrop won 89-85 in overtime.
