Former Winthrop Pitcher Kevin Slowey Traded To The Colorado Rockies

Slowey Has Spent The Last Seven Seasons In The Minnesota Twins Organization

ROCK HILL, SC – Former Winthrop Eagle pitcher Kevin Slowey has been traded to the Colorado Rockies of the National League it was announced today by his former team, the Minnesota Twins.

Slowey has spent the past seven seasons with Minnesota, and made his major league debut with the team in 2007. He posted a career record of 39-29 in his five seasons with the Twins, including a career-best 13-6 record with a 4.45 ERA in 2010. His career-best ERA came in 2008 when he went 12-11 with a 3.99 ERA in 160.1 innings pitched and two shutouts.

He was drafted by Minnesota in the second round of the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft after enjoying a solid three-year playing career at Winthrop. Slowey went 29-9 during his career as an Eagle with a 3.15 ERA, and had a career-best season as a junior in 2005 as he went 14-2 with a 2.18 ERA to go with seven complete games and one save. He finished his career with 13 complete games in 41 starts.

Slowey currently holds Winthrop career records for wins (29), innings pitched (349.0) and strikeouts (331). He is also tied for most wins in a season with 14 and has the most strikeouts in a game at 19.

He is a two-time All-Big South Conference selection, was named the 2005 Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year, earned Big South Pitcher of the Week honors six times and, in 2005, earned All-American recognition from the American Baseball Coaches Association, Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
