Matt Horn has been predicted to go in the second round of the Major League Soccer Draft, according to draftsite.com's latest 2012 MLS Mock Draft.
The 5-11 defender has been a three-year starter and has 14 starts in 15 games played this season and has been solid in the back for the Eagles, logging the fourth most minutes on the team with 1,225. He has one assist on the year, which came on Sept. 3 in a win over Wofford College in overtime. The website has Horn going 25
th overall to the San Jose Earthquakes.
Horn is currently a finalist for the Lowe's Senior Class Award and was the 2010 Big South Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Winthrop currently has two players on MLS rosters as
Matt Stinson plays for Toronto FC and Otto Loewy is a member of the New England Revolution. John Gilkerson, Saidi Isaac and Henry Kalungi are the only Winthrop players to ever be selected in the MLS Draft. Gilkerson was drafted by the New York Red Bulls in the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft and Isaac was taken in the same draft by the New England Revolution. Kalungi was drafted 53
rd overall in the 2009 MLS Draft by the Colorado Rapids.
The MLS draft will be held on Jan. 12, 2012 at noon (ET) and will be the 13
th draft in league history. The event will be held in Kansas City, MO and 19 MLS clubs will select a total of 38 players. The expansion Montreal Impact will have the first overall selection.
