ROCK HILL, SC – Winthrop junior third baseman/leftfielder Chas Crane (Bridgewater, NJ) has been awarded the 2010 Rawlings Coastal Plain League Offensive Player of the Year, as voted on by the CPL head coaches.
Crane enjoyed a solid offensive season for the Peninsula Pilots posting a .344 batting average, second in the CPL, and started in 51 of the 52 games that he played. He led the CPL in numerous offensive categories including: home runs (9), RBI (48), total bases (108), walks (41), slugging percentage (.600) and on-base percentage (.462). He also produced a total of 62 hits in 180 at-bats to go along with 15 doubles, two triples, 11 stolen bases and 37 runs scored.
He has earned several honors this summer playing for the Pilots. Crane was named the Rawlings Hitter of the Week during the fourth week of play and was also the starting third baseman for the National CPL All-Star Team. Prior to the all-star game, he competed in the 2010 CPL All-Star Home Run Derby.
During the stretch in which he was named hitter of the week, Crane posted a .500 batting average with 10 hits that included two long balls and four doubles. He recorded a league-high 12 RBI during the week with 20 total bases, a 1.000 slugging percentage and .577 on-base percentage.
Crane helped lead the Pilots to a 32-24 regular season record and a 3-2 mark in the postseason. In the postseason, he hit .263 with one homer, four RBI and two doubles.
