Volleyball Team Will Face 29-Match Regular Season Schedule In 2010

ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop's volleyball team will play a 29-match regular season schedule in 2010 which includes 11 home appearances in the Winthrop Coliseum. Highlighting the non-conference portion of the schedule will be the Carolina Challenge that will be hosted by Winthrop during Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-4.
Winthrop, which is coming off a 19-11 season in 2009 and finished third in the Big South Conference with a 11-5 record, will open the year with four consecutive tournament appearances and close out the year as host for the 2010 Big South Championship Tournament during the weekend of Nov. 18-20.

“We are starting the 2010 season with a tough non-conference schedule,” said head coach Sally Polhamus, who is beginning her fourth year at the helm. “The schedule is extremely challenging, but we feel it will help prepare us for our journey toward a conference championship.”

The Eagles open the schedule Aug. 27-28 at the Tribe Invitational in Williamsburg, VA, followed by the Carolina Challenge, the Kansas Invitational (Sept. 10-11) and the Bash in the Boro at Georgia Southern (Sept. 17-18). The Tribe Invitational also includes Wisconsin, Connecticut, Seton Hall and host William and Mary. Winthrop will be joined in the Carolina Challenge by Clemson, South Carolina and College of Charleston. Kansas, Northern Iowa and Arkansas-Little Rock will face the Eagles in the Kansas Invitational while South Alabama, East Tennessee and host Georgia Southern make up the field of the Bash in the Boro.

Winthrop will open the16-match Big South portion of the schedule at home on Sept. 24 against High Point.

Season tickets are priced at $35 while single match tickets can be purchased at the door for $5 (adults) and $3 (children). A special $70 season pass which is good for admission to all home volleyball, men's soccer and women's soccer events is also available at the Winthrop ticket office, located on the lower level of the coliseum.
