RADFORD, Va. -- Playing their second game of the conference weekend slate, the Winthrop Volleyball team fell to the hosts Radford, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon.Â
This marks the first time since 2018 that Radford has defeated Winthrop, snapping an eleven-game unbeaten streak for the Eagles.Â

Set 1Â
- Radford came out of the gates firing, keeping up with the Eagles and trading blowsÂ
- The Eagles looked to find an advantage in the middle of the set, finding a four-point margin thanks to two kills from Avery Jolley, 17-13Â
- The Highlanders clawed back with timely kills from Taryn Roberts, forcing ties throughout the late stages.Â
- A final Radford surge at extra points sealed the frame, 28–26.Â
Set 2Â
- The Eagles answered quickly, jumping in front on a Laila Glover kill and an ace from Addison Torain for a 5-2 lead.Â
- Rachel McCollum found key assists to her hitters, Avery Jolley and Teagan Sychterz to extend Winthrop's advantage to 15-10.Â
- Radford narrowed the gap late, but Jolley powered a crucial kill to keep the Eagles in control.Â
- Paige Bennett sealed the set with a final attack, evening the match at 1-1 with a 25-23 win.Â
Set 3Â
- Winthrop carried momentum into the third, breaking a 5-5 tie behind back-to-back kills from Avery Jolley and Laila Glover.Â
- The Eagles held firm as Isabella Murray stepped in to setting duties, pushing the lead to 15-11.Â
- Radford put together a run of their own, sweeping the seven out of eight points to even things up and eventually take the lead 20-19Â
- Winthrop leaned on their hitters, swinging the momentum pendulum back in their favor to take the set, 25-21Â
Set 4Â
- Radford jumped out early with a string of kills to lead 8-3, forcing an early Winthrop timeout.Â
- McCollum and Bennett sparked a mid-set push that cut the deficit to 15-14.Â
- The Highlanders responded with a 5-1 run fueled by forcing Winthrop errors.Â
- Radford closed it out 25–20, forcing a deciding fifth set.Â
Set 5Â
- Radford took an early 6-2 lead behind Sierra Moore and Taryn Roberts.Â
- Avery Jolley and Teagan Sychterz combined to bring Winthrop back within 9-7.Â
- Radford secured the final set 15-10 to claim the five-set victory.Â
