ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop senior Shanice Cole was named to the 2010 Advanced Auto Parts Big South Conference Championship All-Tournament Team, announced by the league following Sunday's Championship game.
Cole had an impressive game against third-seeded High Point as she nearly led the Lady Eagles to an upset victory on Friday. Cole scored 30 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. High Point hit a prayer three-point shot to tie the game at the buzzer in regulation and rallied for a 68-65 win in overtime.
She is the seventh player in school history to be voted to the All-Tournament Team at the conference championship and just the third in the last 13 seasons. On Thursday evening Cole was named to the First Team All-Big South, becoming just the seventh different player voted to the first team in school history.
Winthrop has placed Kim Segars (1988), Anne Cox (1996), Jennifer Churchill (1996, 1997), Stephanie Pannell (2002) and Ashley Fann (2005, 2006) on the all-tournament team.
Cole led the Lady Eagles with 12.8 points and 7.1 points and her 30 points against High Point was the first 30-point plus performance by a Lady Eagle since Kia Bell did it Nov. 29, 2002 when she dropped 30 at Air Force.
Joining Cole on the All-Tournament team were teammates Amber Mays and Devon Brown (MVP), Gardner-Webb's Margaret Roundtree and Dominique Hudson, and High Point's Shamia Brown.
