BATON ROUGE, LA – Winthrop senior golfer Kamito Hirai shot an opening round seven-over par, 79, Thursday at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional
Hirai, competing in his second consecutive NCAA Regional, opened the tournament even par through the first six holes before bogeying the seventh and ninth holes to card a two-over par on the front nine.
The back nine started on a down note for Hirai as he double bogeyed the par four, 10th hole. After three consecutive pars, Hirai bogeyed the 14th, 15th and 16th holes to reach his seven-over par score for the first round.
Hirai is currently in a tie for 54th place after the first round. Hirai will tee off his second round at 11:00 a.m. EST Friday, starting on the back nine.
