ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The Winthrop University baseball team secured a 10-6 victory over UNC Asheville on Saturday at Greenwood Field. Using 15 hits, the Eagles collected their 30th win on the season. After not passing the 30 mark since 2019, the Eagles have done so in back-to-back years under

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles' offense ignited in the second inning with four runs. Chazz Grossington was hit by a pitch, and Zach Greenberg singled, setting up Colin Crowley's two-RBI double to right center, scoring Grossington and Greenberg. A sacrifice fly by Gabe Natividad brought in Cade Norton, and Josh Skowronski's double down the right field line scored Crowley, giving Winthrop a 4-0 lead after two innings.
- UNC Asheville closed the gap in the fourth inning with a two-run homer by O. Michelson, reducing the lead to 4-2. The fifth inning saw B. Johnson's two-RBI double and J. Minarik's RBI single put UNC Asheville ahead 5-4.
- In the sixth inning, Cade Norton tied the game with a solo home run, making it 5-5. UNC Asheville briefly regained the lead with an RBI single by P. Gillen, 6-5.
- The Eagles evened the score at 6-6 in the seventh inning. Jaylen Hernandez singled and scored on Alan Benhardt's sacrifice fly.
- Winthrop pulled away in the eighth inning. Crowley doubled to left center and scored on Hernandez's RBI single. Natividad and Hernandez scored on Corey Wouters' sacrifice fly and Benhardt's double, respectively. Grossington's single up the middle brought in Benhardt, extending the lead to 10-6.
- Winthrop's pitchers kept UNC Asheville scoreless in the final two innings, allowing no hits in the ninth, sealing the 10-6 win.
