COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The Winthrop University baseball team secured a 5-2 victory over South Carolina at Founders Park on Tuesday night. Â
This win marked their first victory over South Carolina since 2015 and was also their first win on the road against them since then. This was only the second win over South Carolina this century for Winthrop. Â

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- In the third inning, Gabe Natividad walked and advanced to third on a single by Jaylen Hernandez, who recorded a season-high total of 3 walks during the game. Corey Wouters' sacrifice fly brought Natividad home, and Hernandez later scored on Benhardt's RBI single, putting Winthrop up 2-1.Â
- In the fourth inning, Grant McGuire singled and scored on Wilson's two-run homer, extending the Eagles' lead to 4-1.Â
- South Carolina managed a solo home run by Yuhasz in the fifth to narrow the gap to 4-2, but Winthrop maintained its lead.Â
- In the eighth, Colin Crowley walked, stole second, and eventually scored on a wild pitch, increasing the Eagles' lead to 5-2.Â
- Winthrop's pitching staff, including Keup, Guzman, and McNeely, held South Carolina scoreless in the final innings, securing the win.Â
