Lacrosse Falls to Wofford in OT, 13-12

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop lacrosse dropped its fourth conference matchup of the season in overtime 13-12 against Wofford on Wednesday afternoon.


FIRST PERIOD

  • Wofford earned the first draw control of the period by Vivian Chiomento

  • Emma Stalteri quickly put the Terriers on the board with an unassisted goal at 14:18

  • A foul by Brooke Meltcher created a successful man-up goal opportunity for the Eagles, with Tori Iannotti finding the back of the net and tying the game 1-1

  • Turnovers were exchanged back and forth until a turnover from Olivia Paton gave the Terriers a good clear attempt, and McKenzie Moeller gave Wofford the lead 2-1 at 6:22

  • Iannotti got her second goal of the period to tie up the game 2-2 after Christina Warren got the draw control

  • Christina Warren gave the Eagles the lead 3-2 off a missed shot by Iannotti


SECOND PERIOD

  • A foul and green card on Iannotti to start the second period gave Wofford a man-up opportunity to tie the game up 3-3

  • Back-to-back goals from Ella Bartlett and Chiomento gave the Terriers a two-goal lead

  • Neither team was able to net a goal until a turnover by Lily Thompson at the 1:50 mark extended Wofford's lead 6-3 with a goal from Sara Fenwick

  • Olivia Graebner then scored off a wide shot from Emma Stalteri, with the Terriers leading 7-4 going into the half

  • Winthrop was unable to score in the second period


THIRD PERIOD
  • Wofford got on the board first with an unassisted goal by Graebner 

  • A groundball pickup by Kamryn Davis off a Moeller turnover led to a goal by Tiffany Kelley, the first of six goals by the Eagles in the third

  • A foul on Laney Reh gave Christina Warren a successful free position shot to cut into the Terriers' lead 8-5

  • Back-to-back goals by Mollie Calabrese and Olivia Paton put the Eagles within one at the 4:59 mark

  • Gabby Pierpont and Kelley both scored goals in the last two minutes to take the lead 9-8 to close out the period

  • Winthrop held the Terriers to one goal in the third period


FOURTH PERIOD

  • The Eagles started the fourth period with an immediate goal by Iris Leavitt

  • The Terriers immediately bounced back with a goal from Katie Brosseau, which was then met with a goal by Iannotti to maintain the lead

  • A free position shot after a foul on Graebner earned Leavitt her second goal of the game

  • Kamryn Davis then turned over the ball to put the Terriers within two after an unassisted goal by Stalteri

  • Both teams struggled to find the back of the net until the Eagles had a clock violation at 3:05, leading to a successful Wofford clear and another goal by Stalteri

  • A turnover by Iannotti gave Stalteri her third consecutive goal at 0:07 to tie the game 12-12 and send them into overtime 

  
FIFTH PERIOD 
  • Wofford started out the fifth period with a draw control from Graebner, who then turned over the ball to Lily Thompson

  • Graebner then caused a turnover to Warren, giving Chiomento the ground ball

  • A goal by Kaitlyn Bellanca gave the Terriers the overtime win 13-12


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Winthrop outscored the Terriers in the first and third quarters

  • Tori Iannotti earned her third hat trick of the season and led the team in goals (3) and shots (6)

  • Iannotti also had a season-high two assists

  • Even with the loss, Winthrop led in saves (11), groundballs (19), and clear attempts (16-18)

  • Tiffany Kelley had a season-high two goals (also a career best)

  • Mikaylah Lindsay led the team in groundballs (3) and had her sixth game of the season with over 10 saves
